Let's become (more) interculturally competent!

The classes include some theory, sometimes readings, interesting activities, and discussions! (can be adjusted depending on your preferences). Classes are recommended for intermediate and advanced level of English. No previous knowledge of the topics is needed. All you need is an open mind and curiosity about your own culture / other cultures!

You can choose from the following topics:

1.Let’s start exploring your cultural background! 

What is intercultural communication? How can I benefit from being (more) interculturally competent? 

2.Why do we see the world the way we see it? Perception. Fun activity to understand how we see things and create meaning.

3.How do I learn? Let’s explore your learning style and how it influences your learning process, problem solving, etc. What are best career paths for your specific learning style?

4.What is my identity / identities?

5.What are cultural dimensions? PART 1

How do cultures differ one from another? Is my culture more individualistic or collectivist? How does my culture approach power distance? (in working environment, parents – children relationships, etc.) What about my personal tendencies?

6.What are cultural dimensions? PART 2

How do cultures differ one from another? Does my culture tend to avoid uncertainty or take risks? Is my culture achievement or nurturance oriented? What about my personal tendencies? How does my culture approach time?

7.How do we communicate verbally?

8.How do we communicate non-verbally?

9.What are stereotypes? How are we as a culture seen by other cultures?

10.What is culture shock and when do we experience it? What is reverse culture shock?

11.Personal values. What do I value?

12.How can we bridge differences when a (cultural) clash occurs? Discussion of specific cases / incidents.
